SUMMARY:EUROPEAN CRANE CONFERENCE - GALLOCANTA 2014
DESCRIPTION:The VIII European Crane Conference\, the most important scientific meeting in Europe for those who dedicate themselves to the study of cranes\, will be held in 2014 in the town of Gallocanta (Zaragoza). Every three or four years\, in this scientific meeting\, the European Crane Working Group (ECWG) brings together the world’s most relevant researchers to outline and discuss the most recent and relevant studies about cranes and the state of conservation of their habitat. \nThe European Crane Conference will be based in the Tourism and Congress Centre in Gallocanta\, although participants will also visit some nearby towns and\, of course\, the impressive saltwater lagoon of Gallocanta. The conferences will mainly deal with the next topics: biology of the species\, migratory tracking and behaviour\, dynamic of the populations\, the problem of cranes in agriculture\, and uses and customs related to cranes. \nEuropean Crane Conference 2014 \nAlthough attendance to the VIII European Crane Conference is limited to experts and researchers\, we want to encourage you to visit the lagoon of Gallocanta around the time of the Conference. Cranes coming from northern Europe arrive to the wetland during this time. At dawn and dusk\, the wingbeat of thousands of cranes gathered in large groups covers the sky\, and the trumpeting sound of their song turns deafening\, giving rise to one of the most impressive natural spectacles in Europe. \nThe VIII European Crane Conference is the first one held in Spain\, and the Asociación de Amigos de Gallocanta is in charge of the organization. We want to thank the members of this association for the big effort they are putting into the organization of the Conference\, trying to gather the largest possible number of experts despite the difficult economic situation. From Birding140 and our limited resources\, we have decided to make our contribution taking part in the Conference as sponsors. We are sure that the VIII European Crane Conference will provide significant progress in scientific knowledge\, and it will keep alive the fight for the conservation of the cranes and their habitat in Europe. \n
